West Midlands DA held there general meeting on Thursday 27th November at Fairfield village hall, Bromsgrove. We had an excellent talk by Mark Hall FNVS, grounds manager at Harper Adams college, explaining how Mark grows his exhibits for the Millennium class. Mark went on to say this was a class he has been awarded a first and two seconds in the past three years.
With some brilliant slides and a well-executed presentation, it was a joy to see Marks set up which included beetroot and stump carrot sand beds and potato bags fed by a drip system. There was plenty of note taking and i'm sure all those who attended left having learnt something new. Hopefully we will see some more entries in the Millennium class from the West Mids DA now!
We always have a well supported raffle and our November meeting was no different. A good raffle is a must as it helps fund our quality speakers. We had a short presentation before the talk for all those who entered our first little DA show back in August. Certificates and gift vouchers were awarded to all the worthy winners.
A big congratulations to Peter Waldron who won best in show with his three red onions.
Our February meeting will be our AGM followed by a short presentation from Mick Poultney.
We have four meetings a year: February, May, August and November. The hall opens at 7pm for an 8pm start.
Members free. Guest £3 entry. Everybody welcome.
