Welsh Branch Meeting and Dinner

The Welsh Branch held their recent committee meeting and dinner in the Brynafon Country House Hotel, Rhayadr, on Saturday 24th November.

It was good to see our chairman, Colin Lewis back in the chair and making a remarkable recovery after back surgery. Various issues were raised and discussed, mainly to do with next year’s championships at Rhondda Sports Centre on the 7th and 8th of September. Judges were elected and accommodation arrangements finalised. Future venues were also discussed, but there were no positive outcomes. Member of the committee voted in favour of full results and pictures of championships in the SV magazine as many members do not use the website. The Christmas draw of the 200club was made and results were as follows: £50 E Thomas, £40 Rose Higgins, £30 Jim Jones,  £20 T D Phillips. At the end of the meeting, the Chairman presented our President, Bob Ball with a bottle of whisky as he had recently celebrated his 90th birthday.

Members stayed on to an evening dinner and were joined by some other society members from Gwent DA. We had an enjoyable evening with a quiz arranged once more by John Evans. Two teams were in contest, the men against the women. The women managed to score the most points and the  team captain was presented with the famous toilet seat trophy!! We had a pleasant end to the evening with few songs from Tredegar’s International Singer, Lee Johnson and the evening closed with Bob Ball’s request of the last dance with Mary Maisey.
