The 2010 Southern Branch Championship

Held at New Park Brockenhurst 27-29 July

Three days of beautiful weather, a bumper entry and a marquee full of quality exhibits, welcome to the New Forest Show in Hampshire.

First of all a big thank you to our sponsors the New Forest and Hampshire Show Society without who’s help our show would not be possible. They provide the funding for the prizes, top class accommodation for our judges and the excellent facilities. Also thank you to all the exhibitors who supported our show with a special mention to those of you who made the long trip from Wales and the Midlands.

My thanks to the judge’s for an excellent job and their comments of how much they enjoyed judging the show. Also thank you to all the stewards who maintained a constant presence answering a multitude of queries from the admiring public. The beautiful calligraphy on the prize cards was scribed by our chairman Barry Newman.

This year we had the pleasure of a visit from our national chairman Medwyn Williams MBE and his lovely wife Gwenda. I know they had a most enjoyable day. Medwyn judged the South of England Potato Championship and then took lunch with the show judges and officials of Southern Branch. In the evening a number of the members joined Medwyn and Gwenda for a raucous dinner at their hotel. Good food, good company and a nice bottle of wine. Plus an odd joke or two, a really cracking evening.

After an involvement with the show for the past 10 years I am now moving on to allow new blood to flow into the system. This will be provided by the more than capable Chris Neel fnvs the current secretary and treasurer of Hampshire dist assoc. Chris will be backed up by his wife Jane and the team at Hants D.A. I wish them every success and I am confident that the show will continue to improve under his leadership.
